We recently fixed up a home in Durham, NC with some gutter guards. In this post, you’ll be able to read all about his previous guards and see pictures of the install.

Durham is only 20 minutes from our Raleigh warehouse here in the middle of North Carolina. If you live here in North Carolina, you probably already know quite a bit about Durham. If you don’t, you might find it interesting to know that Durham is nicknamed “The Bull City” and also the “City of Medicine”. The area was initially farmed by the Eno, Occaneechi, and Shakori and has been a trading route for centuries. In the 1800’s Durham took on the name “The Bull City” because of a mistake. Durham used to be a major distributor of tobacco, and the Bull Durham Tobacco Factory was named after the owner had seen a picture of a Bull on a mustard bottle that he thought was from Durham England. The bull went on to become one of the most famous trademarks in America of its time and Durham became the Bull City. In the mid 1900s Durham took a new direction and has turned into a global center for information technology, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, research, and medicine, earning it the title of the “City of Medicine”.

Ok, history lesson aside, let’s move on to the gutter guard install.

This particular customer had tried multiple types of gutter guards. He literally had 4 types of gutter guards before he finally did some heavy duty due diligence and settled on Gutterglove products.

This roof in particular has a lot of real estate. At this home, there is also a gutter’s worst enemy – trees! Lots and lots of trees! All types of trees! Trees producing leaves and trees producing pine needles. The gutters kept getting clogged with these pine needles and leaves, and this led to water just being dumped everywhere, as if the gutters did not exist. This home has a very tall roof, and the last thing the homeowner wanted to do is climb up there and repeatedly remove leaves from his various gutters.

This particular customer went over the various gutter guards with us and we decided to go with 3 of our products. These are our 3 most popular products: Gutterglove ProGutterglove Ultra, and LeafBlaster.

Take a look at how tall this roof is (and all of the trees!):

This particular roof had a fairly complex roof system:

The water was coming down from two roofs in multiple locations, and funneling a LOT of water into one gutter. This led to water overflowing the gutter and dumping right in front of the house. In cases like this, we install a deflector to disperse the water more evenly so that the gutter can keep up with the water.

For a gutter guard, this home had been using the foam inserts:

Below is a picture of all of the leaves that the foam inserts had accumulated. The gutter above had to be emptied when we took the foam inserts out. Look at the gigantic amount of leaves that were clogged in the gutter. We filled trashbag after trashbag after trashbag with leaves. These “gutter guards” actually accomplished just the opposite of what they were supposed to do, which is keep leaves out.

Here is our work area. Gutterglove products are cut to size right on site. We put a tarp down to keep a clean area so that when we leave, we leave no trace behind. When this person gets home from work they won’t even know we were there all afternoon!
